🇪🇹| Ethiopia has shut down its entire betting industry after the Lottery Service ordered banks, payment operators, and financial intermediaries to stop processing all betting transactions.
The directive follows the revocation of 22 betting licenses two weeks earlier and bars all new bets. Authorities said the move stems from ongoing investigations into alleged illegal activity across the sector.
The Lottery Service said investigations uncovered widespread illegality, large scale money laundering, and risks to national security. CEOs of several betting firms and payment operators were detained, while computers and equipment were seized.
