Riddet Institute | Bioeconomy Science Institute BSI + Massey University + Feast Lab
Location: BSI, Mount Albert, Auckland
Duration: 1 Year Full-time
Funding: Full tuition fees + $30K stipend, awarded by Riddet Institute
Eligibility: New Zealand or Australian residents only
Start: Between early November 2026 and March 2027

Project Title: Measuring Consumer response to Dairy and Plant-based products
Project Overview:
Research to understand consumer response to Dairy and Plant-based dairy analogues. Focus on relative impact of texture manipulation thickness + mouthfeel and flavour sweetness, sourness, aromatics on perception of dairy yoghurt and plant-based yoghurt alternatives.
Work in BSI’s advanced sensory lab with 18 booths, training/focus group rooms, and sample prep area.
Supervisors: Prof Joanne Hort Feast, Dr Roger Harker, Christina Roigard BSI
Who Should Apply:
- BFoodtech Honours degree minimum 2.1, or equivalent degree in Food Science or related discipline
- Meets Massey’s Master of Food Technology entry requirements
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall if English not first language
- Ideally experience with sensory science, human participants, or food choice behavior
- Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
