π― Power-packed @todays conference on IPC Route to Net Zero.
π "First do no harm" ...as clinicians, IP's, scientists we must begin to factor in the ecological systems in decision making". these ecological systems are a Quadripartite agenda which includes πΊ Human health, π Animal health, π Social systems (cultural, political) and βοΈ Environmental Health (the planet) integrated in a One-Health approach. πΌ This integration have often put humans in the centre, emphasising need to take into account other ecological determinants.π― Preventing infections before they occur even whilst within the communities , would mean preventing people from coming into healthcare settings ποΈ , thereby reduce carbon footprints π£. simply put, we will require less water π , less glovesπ§€, less cleaning solution and that is a foot on the sustainability ladder βοΈ. Noπ€ π§· πͺDecontamination has become more recurring recently, particularly as it relates to reusables within healthcare settings-theatre hats, tourniquets etc. Key questions to ask in making the decisions would include: what are the efficacy standards? any standardised guidance/methodology to provide the blueprint, or how do we risk assess-checklist/templates? π‘ how solutions can be mapped from less-resourced settings & countries to reduce consumption, a key lever on the sustainability table.... blown away to hear that a disposable pad would take about 500 years to decompose....We all need to think of sustainable solutions to advance patient to planet safety! What will your sustainability goal look like? Overall Power-packed sessions and delivery from excellent speakers!
