Kenya’s vehicle assembly industry produced a record 10,221 units
Kenya’s vehicle assembly industry produced a record 10,221 units in the first seven months of 2026, the first time output has crossed 10,000 by July and already more than any full-year total recorded before 2022.
Output rose 31.2% from 7,790 units in Jan–Jul 2025, with July production hitting a record 1,863 vehicles, up 72.0% YoY.
Every month of 2026 has exceeded 1,000 units, extending the run of four-figure monthly production to 12 consecutive months from August 2025.
The surge reflects tax advantages for locally assembled CKD vehicles, government fleet procurement and leasing, the migration of more models to domestic assembly lines and new EV investment.
Existing plants also retain substantial spare capacity, allowing assemblers to scale production quickly as demand rises.
