An opportunity exists for a Senior Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist In-Charge to join the team at our Krugersdorp branch. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of displaying Clinical competence and leadership ability with a high level of ethics and integrity while consistently aligning with the PathCare values.

Requirements

Key Competency Requirements
  • 3-year Biomedical Technology diploma or 4- year Medical Laboratory Scientist degree in Clinical Pathology
  • Current registration with the HPCSA in Clinical Pathology
  • Must have a valid Code B driver’s license (manual transmission)
  • Relevant business/laboratory management qualification is highly advantageous
  • Intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office)
  • 8 years’ experience post HPCSA registration as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in a Clinical Pathology environment
  • Experienced in Haematology and proficient in Morphology
  • General management/supervisory experience in a Clinical Pathology setting is advantageous
  • Experience in QC review processes and experience in maintaining QA systems including SANAS audits
  • Experience in technical procedure development and implementation
  • Experience in displaying leadership abilities including delegating and team building
  • Experience in training staff
  • Must have an acceptable track record/performance record with regard to the technical and behavioural competencies required to perform in this position

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical rigor and meticulous attention to detail

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Pathologists and the Area Manager, in their pursuit to provide patient excellence and to further establish PathCare as the laboratory of choice.
  • Support, communicate, implement and manage all organisational strategies, objectives and policies in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Actively work to harness the value of people.
  • Manage, motivate and engage direct reports by leading from a place of influence, respect and professionalism.
  • Model, align to and drive the PathCare values thereby contributing to a purpose-driven and CARE values-based laboratory.
  • Mentor, develop and train team members so to empower team members and encourage individual growth and development within the scope of practice.
  • Perform on-site training of staff as well as provide support for less experienced colleagues within the scope of practice.
  • Participate in the consistent implementation of operational processes to the standards of ‘best practice’, while optimising the use of laboratory resources.
  • Investigate, recommend and implement initiatives to improve/enhance operational efficiencies within the scope of practice.
  • Address and manage complaints/queries timeously and effectively that are within the scope of practice.
  • Manage reagents and equipment.
  • Perform advanced maintenance, housekeeping and troubleshooting of technical problems within the scope of practice, experience on Alinity Chemistry Analyser will be advantageous
  • Identify and manage the needs of all internal and external stakeholders in order to prioritise and optimise patient care.
  • Collaborate and lead others so as to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial.
