The job market is changing quickly.
Degrees still matter, but employers are increasingly looking at what you can actually do, solve, communicate and improve.

Here are 12 skills worth building now

1. AI literacy and agentic AI

Learn how to use AI tools, create workflows and work effectively with AI agents, not just write basic prompts.

2. Critical thinking

Question information, challenge assumptions and know when an answer does not make sense.

3. AI verification and quality control

Fact-check AI outputs, verify references and data, and never submit something you do not understand.

4. Data literacy and analysis

Learn how to interpret data, identify patterns and use evidence to support decisions.

5. Cybersecurity awareness

Understand online risks, data privacy, phishing, password security and responsible use of digital tools.

6. Technological literacy

Become comfortable learning new software, platforms and technologies as they emerge.

7. Communication and public speaking

Learn to explain complex ideas clearly through writing, presentations and conversations.

8. Collaboration

Know how to work effectively with people from different professions, cultures and backgrounds.

9. Creative problem-solving

Do not just identify problems. Learn how to develop practical and original solutions.

10. Leadership and people management

Learn how to coordinate people, mentor others, make decisions and take responsibility.

11. Adaptability and continuous learning

Skills will change. Your ability to keep learning may become one of your biggest advantages.

12. Business and commercial thinking

Understand how organisations create value, solve customer problems, manage costs and generate income.
You do not need to master all 12 at once.

Pick two or three that complement your current profession and start deliberately building them now.

In 2027, your certificate may open the door, but what you can actually do will determine how far you go.

Which of these are you currently learning?
