In a major boost for education in Nigeria, winners of the 2027 South-East Maths Olympiad will go head-to-head with the brightest young minds from Singapore and 56 other countries in 2027.

The international challenge will see our children compete on one of the world's biggest academic stages, a clear sign that the world is now taking a keen interest in the potential of Nigerian children.

Speaking on the development, the convener, Alex Onyia, said the initiative is part of a deliberate effort to benchmark Nigerian education against the best global standards - including Singapore, Finland, Shanghai, China, Canada, and the United States.

"I like how the world is now taking an interest in our children. I am benchmarking our education against that of Singapore, Finland, Shanghai, China, Canada, and the US. This is how we can move from being a third-world country to a first-world country. The future is looking exciting."

For years, Singapore has been ranked number one in the world for Mathematics and Science education. For South-East students to be invited to challenge them is not just a competition - it is a statement that Nigeria can compete and win globally when we invest in our children.

Education experts say this move will inspire a new generation of problem-solvers, engineers, doctors and innovators, and position Nigeria for a true leap into the future.

From the classrooms of the South-East to the world stage in Singapore - the future is indeed looking exciting, and it is wearing a Nigerian badge.
