iStore South Africa has officially launched iStore Pay, a new payment solution aimed at empowering South African entrepreneurs and small businesses with a simpler, more flexible way to accept in-person payments.

Announced in Johannesburg on 12 May 2026, the new platform positions iStore as the first partner to introduce Tap to Pay on iPhone in South Africa. The solution enables businesses to accept contactless payments directly on an iPhone using only the iStore Pay app—eliminating the need for traditional card machines or additional payment hardware.

The launch reflects a broader shift toward mobile-first commerce and digital payment infrastructure, particularly among SMEs looking for cost-effective payment solutions.

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, merchants can securely accept the following:

  • Credit and debit cards
  • Apple Pay
  • Other digital wallets and contactless payment methods

All transactions can be processed directly on compatible iPhones without requiring external payment terminals.

According to Chris Dodd, “Two decades ago, we set out to bring the very best of Apple to South Africans. With the launch of iStore Pay, that commitment now extends to entrepreneurs and small businesses. By enabling Tap to Pay on iPhone locally, we are helping remove traditional barriers to commerce and making it easier for businesses to accept payments using technology they already have.”

iStore Pay has been designed with simplicity and accessibility in mind, targeting entrepreneurs, startups, freelancers, and small businesses seeking lower operational costs and faster onboarding.

Key features include the following:

No Barrier to Entry, More Flexibility—Accept contactless payments right on your current
iPhone* with no additional hardware required and no upfront, monthly** or payout fees. Get
transacting in under 15 minutes.
Transparent Pricing, More Value—Transaction fees from 2.5%, with a pay-as-you-transact
model that means businesses only pay when they make a sale.
Simple Payouts – Merchants pay a flat fee of R2.99 per payout. As part of the launch offer
merchants will receive free daily payouts until 31 July 2026.
