South African payment performance partner NjiaPay has launched one-click payments for merchants, giving consumers a fast and convenient way to pay without re-entering card details or taking additional payment steps like 3-D Secure verification.
NjiaPay, spun out of South African international calling startup Talk360 as its own entity in December 2024, is a payments-as-a-service provider that aims to empower African businesses through a seamless, secure, and scalable payments management platform.
NjiaPay acts as a neutral orchestration layer on top of a merchant’s payment service provider (PSP) stack. Through a single API, it intelligently routes transactions in real time, selects the best-performing provider and consolidates performance data into one unified view. Rather than replacing PSPs, NjiaPay coordinates them to maximise successful payment outcomes and reduce operational friction.
The startup raised US$2.1 million in seed funding back in March, and has now rolled out one-click payments for South African merchants. Unlike one-click solutions tied to a particular payment service provider, NjiaPay, enables merchants to offer the same experience across multiple payment providers. As a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant business, NjiaPay meets the highest level of payment card security requirements and can securely encrypt and store customers’ card details.
After a customer’s first successfully authenticated payment, NjiaPay provides the merchant with a payment-provider-agnostic token rather than the actual card information. The token can be reused for future payments, but only on that merchant’s platform. This means the merchant is never exposed to sensitive card data, while customers can continue paying with one click regardless of which payment provider processes the transaction in the first place.
“The first time a customer shops with a merchant, we assign them a unique ID, based on shopper data such as an email address, and securely tokenise the payment details used at checkout,” said Jonatan Allback, CEO of NjiaPay. “If they successfully authenticate the transaction and consent to the merchant storing those details for future purchases, their saved payment method surfaces when they return. Instead of entering their card details again, they confirm payment with a single click or tap, without needing to reauthenticate.”
