Spain are world champions for the second time.
La Roja ended a 16-year wait with a dramatic 1-0 victory over defending champions Argentina after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium.
Ferran Torres was the hero, scoring the extra-time winner that dethroned Argentina and gave Spain their second star. Spain took the lead late in extra time after the final had finished 0-0 in regulation and went to extra time.
The game turned in the 93rd minute when Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez was sent off for a second yellow card after a tackle on Pau Cubarsi, leaving Argentina down to 10 men for all of extra time.
Spain struck in overtime to lead 1-0 and held on as Argentina chased a second straight title.
It is a historic first. Spain and Argentina had only met once before at a World Cup - Argentina winning 2-1 in 1966 - and had never met in a final before tonight. The victory also ends Argentina's bid to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to retain the trophy.
