Nigerian American driver Ugo Ugochukwu delivered a commanding performance to secure his first-ever FIA Formula 3 Championship victory at the season-opening Feature Race in Melbourne, Australia.

The Campos Racing driver started from second on the grid but briefly slipped to third at the opening corner before fighting back to overtake both Freddie Slater and his teammate Théophile Naël to take the lead early in the race.

Once in front, the 18-year-old controlled the race, building a comfortable gap of around seven seconds at one stage during the 23-lap contest.

The race eventually finished behind a safety car following a late incident, but Ugochukwu maintained his advantage to take the chequered flag.

Slater finished second for Trident, while rookie Taito Kato of ART Grand Prix claimed third to secure his first podium in the series after Naël, who initially crossed the line in third, was handed a five-second penalty for a false start.

Further down the order, Bruno del Pino finished fourth ahead of Maciej Gładysz and Enzo Deligny, while Brad Benavides, Pedro Clerot, Jin Nakamura, and Mattia Colnaghi completed the top ten.

The victory marks a major milestone for Ugochukwu, widely regarded as one of the rising talents in junior single-seater racing, and gives him early momentum at the start of the 2026 Formula 3 campaign.
