President Donald Trump said that Maduro and his wife, captured by the U.S. Delta Force, are now being transported to New York to face indictment.
According to him, they were taken by helicopter and then placed on the U.S. Navy vessel USS Iwo Jima.
Trump added that he hopes they enjoyed the helicopter ride straight from their bedroom.
"The helicopters took them out and they went by helicopter in a nice flight. I'm sure they loved it," he said.
Maduro and his wife have been charged with “narco-terrorism” and will soon face trial, US Attorney General Bondi said.
Trump: "Late last night, and early today, at my direction, the US Armed Forces conducted an extraordinary military operation in the capital of Venezuela.
Overwhelming military power, air land and sea, was used to launch a spectacular assault, and it was an assault like people haven't seen since World War II.
Trump: "No nation in the world could achieve what America achieved in just a short period of time. All Venezuelan military capacities were rendered powerless as the men and women of our military, together with law enforcement, successfully captured Maduro in the dead of night."
Trump: Both Nicolas Maduro and Cilia Flores will face justice
"They were completely overwhelmed and very quickly incapacitated. If you would've seen what I saw, you would be impressed. It was an incredible thing to see. [...] Not a single American was killed, not one piece of military equipment was lost."
"We're going to run the country until we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition," Trump said.
Donald Trump said that what happened to Nicolás Maduro serves as a warning to anyone who threatens the sovereignty of the United States.
He added that all political and military figures in Venezuela should understand: what happened to Maduro could happen to them as well, and it will happen if they fail to act justly, even toward their own people.
